Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Student Conference

Originally a joint effort between the Florida International University and the University of Miami, the Annual South Florida Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Student Conference has expanded to include universities from throughout the greater South Florida region. The annual conference attracts students from both Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University in a partnership that goes beyond the University classroom. The Graduate Student Conference provides professional academic presentation experience as well as an opportunity to network and engage with fellow students and faculty from across Universities and disciplines. Beyond academics, the Conference is ultimately a celebration of Latin American identity and the many things that make Latin America and the Caribbean unique.

The Graduate Student Conference consists of different panels with topics ranging from immigration to music, film and even archeology. Top papers are published in the South Florida Journal of Atlantic Studies and the authors are awarded cash prizes . Winners are announced at the conference.

The conference is co-sponsored by LACC and MALOKA, the graduate student association for those studying Latin American and the Caribbean at FIU, along with the centers for Latin American Studies of University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University.
