New Perspectives on Foreign Policy in the Americas

On March 11, 2024, LACC Director Anthony Pereira, LACC Director of Academic Programs Gabriela Hoberman, and MALACS graduate student Cameron Clarke attended a seminar in Washington, DC entitled “New Perspectives on Foreign Policy in the Americas”.

Dr. Hoberman said the idea to hold the seminar was initiated by LACC Director Anthony Pereira to engage Latin American think tanks at FIU, DC, and Latin America to talk about the main challenges facing the region and subregions. Additionally, the seminar was for the think tank members to produce solutions to the problems that Latin America faces by drafting a policy paper for the second semester of this year. The paper will address four fundamental areas that impact the region, i.e., the main global changes over the last 15-20 years, regional multipolarities and how they influence the foreign policies of individual countries, inter-American collaboration within Latin America, and collaboration with the United States.

Cameron Clarke commented that other areas of importance that were discussed were centered on free trade, finding commonality in goals/resources needed, and collaboration on labor issues.
