LACC’s Title VI Grant-funded Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program provides $1.2 million over four years to meritorious undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to studying Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Quechua or Quichua and developing their academic expertise on Latin American and Caribbean. The US Department of Education-funded program aims to ensure a qualified, globally competent pipeline of future professionals to support US national interests. The prestigious award recognizes students that demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and a strategic academic or professional need for advanced training related to Latin America and the Caribbean. FLAS’s promotion of linguistic expertise in less commonly taught languages will be exemplified by the students’ academic success.
