The deadline for LACC’s Society, Politics, and International Relations in Argentina Study Abroad has been extended to February 24, 2020! Also, LACC currently has a few scholarships of $3,000. This means the brightest students that apply will only be paying $2,030 for the program fee! It’s a competitive scholarship but too good of a great deal to pass up! Do NOT miss your chance, the scholarship deadline has also been extended to Feb. 24, 2020.

The Tinker Foundation has approved a 5 year grant of $75,000 for LACC. The grant will provide graduate students with funds for travel to and within any Spanish and Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America to conduct research and develop contacts with scholars and institutions in their areas of study. LACC’s Director of Research, Dr. Jose Miguel Cruz, leads the grant and has been working with the support of the Tinker Foundation since 2014 to enhance graduate student research in the region.

LACC, in cooperation with FIU's Department of Journalism + Media and the Inter-American Press Association, have produced a series of webinars that examine the public health, economic and political implications of COVID-19 in the region. This webinar series is made possible with the support of LACC's Department of Education Title VI Grant. Recorded webinars are in Spanish and available online.

LACC Welcomes Dr. Armando Matiz Reyes as Community Engagement Specialist

Dr. Armando Matiz Reyes has joined the LACC research staff to develop a database and information system on migrant physicians in the US. The database and information system will prepare FIU to manage a large research project on migration, physician mobility and the impact on the health care system in the United States.

The Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center, CasaCuba, and the Cuban Research Institute have joined forces to launch Briefings on Cuba. This new series will regularly commission analyses of Cuban politics, economy, culture, and society, and consequent policy recommendations, by top Cuba experts.
