Journalists and Editors Workshop: "Journalism and the Public Understanding of Religion"

LACC’s 28th Annual J&E Workshop brings together prominent journalists and scholars from the US, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, France, and Mexico to examine religion in the Americas and the role of media in the formation of policy and public understanding related to religion. Panels explore issues related to representations and misrepresentations of religion in the media; religions vis-à-vis issues of human rights and gender; religion and migration and displacement; and the use of communication and media tools by different religions to influence the economic, socio-political and ideological landscape.
Keynote address by Colombian journalist and expert in communications ethics, Javier Darío Restrepo. Free but registration is required. Presented by LACC, in partnership with the Center for Latin American Studies at UF with support from US Department of Education Title VI Grant, LACC Islam in Latin America SSRC Grant, TAM Brazilian Airlines, Miami European Union Center for Excellence, and FIU’s Applied Research Center, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, International Media Center and Department of Religious Studies.
