Faculty Support

The FIU Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) is pleased to be able to offer support for FIU faculty and staff development activities that contribute to LACC's academic, research and outreach programs. Limited funding is available for travel and related expenses. Approval of requests is based upon the merits of the project, faculty or staff contributions to LACC programs and availability of funding.
Proposed project funding requests may include:

• Curriculum development support- including development of distance-learning courses.
• Professional conference participation
• Research the Latin American Collection at the University of Florida Libraries- Awardees of this particular travel grant are expected to remain in Gainesville for at least one week and to submit a brief (2-3 pp) report on how their work at the University of Florida Libraries enhanced their project and on possible ways to improve the Latin American Collection.
• Research at other libraries or archives
• Conducting fieldwork- for topics related to Latin American or the Caribbean
• Outreach support- for host speakers, conferences, etc., at FIU.

Note: Support for faculty and staff publication projects (translations, editing, index creation, etc.) cannot be provided.

Note: Individuals who are seeking funding to research the Latin American Collection at the University of Florida in Gainesville must provide the committee with a detailed description of the special library material to be accessed during the research. It is recommended that the applicant consult with the FIU Latin American and Caribbean Information Center in the FIU Libraries before preparing this section of the proposal.

Deadlines:
Requests for faculty and staff development support should be submitted by August 1 of each year for fall semester support, and by December 1 of each year for spring and summer semester support.

Requests for travel grants to the UF Libraries Latin American Collection should be submitted by April 1. Travel grant funds awarded must be used by August 1 of the same year.
