LACC associated faculty member Dr. Lisandro Pérez has been named to the Advisory Board for the exhibit Nueva York!, a joint project of the New York Historical Society and the Museo del Barrio of the City of New York. The groundbreaking exhibit, scheduled to open in the Fall of 2010, will chronicle the Spanish and Latin American presence in the City from colonial times to the post-World War II period. Professor Pérez has also been invited to write a chapter for the exhibit's catalogue. The chapter is based on his research on the Cuban community in New York during the nineteenth century. During 2009 Professor Pérez participated in the Comparative Diaspora-Government Relations Project of the Social Science Research Council and the United States Institute for Peace. His paper on the Cuban diaspora will appear in a forthcoming monograph published by the United States Institute for Peace. The Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos at the Universidad de Alcalá in Spain has named Professor Pérez to the editorial board of its journal Camino Real, focusing on the Hispanic presence in the United States.
