LACC and UM’s Center for Latin American Studies Team Up on US Dept. of Education Title VI Grant

Florida International University’s Latin American and Caribbean Center, in partnership with the University of Miami’s Center for Latin American Studies, has been awarded a 4-year Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) for Latin America grant, totaling just over 1 million dollars. Title VI NRC designation is among the most prestigious awards granted to post-secondary area studies centers and it is with great pride that LACC and CLAS announce the award.

The grant is the first federally-funded sponsored project that the two units have pursued jointly as the Miami Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and it will support and expand ongoing collaboration between the two universities and their faculty. LACC, which has consistently been awarded Title VI over the years, will serve as the institutional lead and will work closely with UM to support and increase the visibility of faculty research, training and outreach related to Latin America and the Caribbean. More specifically, the grant will provide faculty travel funding, course development awards, and library acquisition monies, as well as support for international linkage programs and K-12 outreach programming related to the region.

From its incomparable location in Miami, the Miami Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies’ Title VI grant will usher in a new era of opportunities for both universities and the communities they serve. The Miami Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies looks forward to your participation and sincerely thanks you for your continued support!
