Applications are due March 1, 2010 for graduate assistantships and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships and Summer Scholarships. All current and prospective LACC students are encouraged to apply.

Assistantships

A limited number of teaching assistantships are available for graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies program. Teaching assistants acquire classroom experience by helping faculty administer and teach their courses. Assistantships require 20 hours of work weekly and include 80% of the in-state portion of tuition plus a modest stipend. Ph.D. candidates with a strong emphasis on Latin America or the Caribbean may also be eligible to receive a research assistantship pending availability. More...

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Academic Year Fellowships and Summer Scholarships

U.S. Department of Education Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships are awarded to graduate students demonstrating superb academic achievement and a commitment to the study of Latin America and the Caribbean and less-commonly taught languages. LACC awards FLAS academic year fellowships each fall and summer fellowships for intensive language training in Haitian Creole and Portuguese each spring. Academic year FLAS fellows receive up to $12,000 in tuition payments and $15,000 as a stipend and summer FLAS fellows receive up to $4,000 in tuition payments and $2,500 as a stipend. More...
