Interdisciplinary colloquium discusses the role of music in social policy targeting at-risk youth in Latin America and more specifically examines the Youth Orchestra of Uruguay and its success at transforming the lives of children across Uruguay and strengthening the social fabric of the country. Speakers include Ariel Britos, Founder and President of the Foundation of Uruguayan Youth Orchestras and Director of Uruguay’s National Youth Symphony; Charles Bleiker, Associate Professor, College of Education, FIU; Astrid Arraras, Senior Lecture, Department of Politics and International Relations, FIU, and Orlando Garcia, Director and Professor, School of Music, FIU.
