Intercultural Dance and Music Institute The Intercultural Dance and Music Institute (INDAMI), founded in the fall of 1992 by current director Dr. Andrea Mantell-Seidel, is housed in the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) at FIU. The Institute works in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance. INDAMI’s primary purpose is to foster the preservation of all cultural dance and music forms through study, research, publications, conferences, performances, lectures and classes. The institute seeks to foster intercultural understanding, community relations and the appreciation of cultural differences. Reflecting the large Latin American and Caribbean population of the Greater Miami area, INDAMI’s programs emphasize the dance and music of these geographical areas. Public education is one of INDAMI’s top priorities. To further this goal, the institute sponsors numerous programs, including an annual Guest Artist/Scholar Series, an Arts-in-Education outreach program in the Miami-Dade County public schools, the Latin American and Caribbean Summer Dance Institute, the Summer Institute Consortium, and intercultural performance events throughout the year. INDAMI’s programs have received support from the US Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education; the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council; the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council and the Board of County Commissioners; the Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council and the City of Miami Beach; American Airlines; Burstein Foundation; and the BankAtlantic Foundation.
