LACC’s Tinker grant program funds graduate student travel to any Spanish or Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America and the Caribbean to conduct pre-dissertation research directly related to the region. Funds are for pre-dissertation or thesis field research at doctoral or master’s levels.

LACCAPALOOZA is a new student innovation and entrepreneurship challenge where FIU students team up to solve real community issues across Latin America and the Caribbean. The program emphasizes policy-relevant, community-driven solutions tailored to local needs in the region. The Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) is pleased to announce its call for research proposals under the LACC-BRIDGE Initiative. Focused on any Latin American and Caribbean country or subregion, LACC seeks research projects that aim to understand and address salient issues in the region from any discipline or field of knowledge. Successful proposals will advance knowledge on the region, should be feasible within the 12-month award period, and show a clear path towards broader societal impact through public engagement or policy-relevant ideas.

Recognizing the importance of disseminating FIU research conducted on Latin America and the Caribbean, LACC is proud to launch a new initiative to increase exposure of faculty publications in highly reputed academic journals. Through the LACC Impact Publication Program (LACC-IPUB), the Center seeks to support Open Access publications in scientific and educational outlets in any discipline.

LACC’s Society, Politics, and International Relations in Argentina study abroad program is an intensive four-week program designed to foster an understanding of Latin American international relations through the experience of living and studying in one of the most vibrant cosmopolitan cities in the Americas. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students (FIU and Non-FIU students), the program takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the region.

The Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (MALACS) is a unique interdisciplinary program that allows students to design their program based on their own research and career interests. The Program is particularly valuable to those students whose research and professional interests cannot be accommodated within a single discipline. Application Deadline for domestic students is December 1st, 2025.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and the Undergraduate Certificate in Haitian Studies offer undergraduate students the ability to develop an interdisciplinary awareness and understanding of the region. The certificate programs are available on campus or fully online.

The LACC Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies offers interdisciplinary, graduate-level study of Latin America and the Caribbean. LACC Graduate Certificate students enjoy the benefits of access to LACC’s network of faculty experts, policy-makers, artists, community leaders, and alumni both in the U.S. and in Latin America and the Caribbean. The highly flexible program may be completed during the day or in the evenings.

Island TV, a South Florida-based television station, is seeking a dynamic and creative Production Intern for the 2025 Fall semester (08/25/25-12/06/25) to help develop and produce compelling community stories, with the Caribbean community in mind. The selected Intern will get a unique chance to work in studio and out on the field, as well as collaborate and learn from experienced news and TV producers, journalists, editors and technical crew.

The Program of Excellence in Brazilian Studies (PROBRAS) enhances academic and scholarly work throughout the university by strengthening ties between FIU and Brazilian academic, government and private sector institutions. This entails an active outreach program whereby LACC leverages FIU’s intellectual and financial resources to not only engage partners in Brazil but to promote and deepen our understanding of Brazil/US and Brazil/Florida relations.
